You read these books, you spend a while overthinking, but then you relax and you're left with some good stuff soaking into your grey matter. And "Improvise" isn't going to do you any good until you've been taking classes and/or performing for at least 6 months. It speaks to the state of mind you have AFTER having taken classes and done shows. It's fun to read, and speaks with the tone of someone who has gone through exactly what you -- the devoted improviser student -- has gone through. But yeah, you'll suck for a short while right after you read it. I think this is a very accurate description of what happens.
